I'm glad you liked the book. When I first read it, I could see that it would be a great book. He goes into good detail on how to execute the different moves. This is a great book for those just beginning to learn tricks as well as for those who need to brush up on some of the basics. I will pass on your comments to Matt, I'm sure he would enjoy hearing them. Also, for those interested, Matt will be at the 42nd AKA Grand Nationals and will be doing book signings. That is January 26 & 27 in Rosemont, IL.
You are in the same situation that many people are. There are a lot of schools that are trying to learn the XMA but, being that they are new to the program they are still on a learning curve. It is good that you are working with Matt Emig, he is a very talented martial artist. A couple of things I would recommend. First check the Contact part of this website and see if they have any other schools teaching XMA in your area. Just because one isn't up to par, doesn't mean there isn't another one around the corner. Secondly, when you get a chance, I highly recommend, Mike Chat's camp during US Open, the Sharkey's Boot Camp (30 days of hardcore training), Sharkey's Summer or Winter Camp (4 days of hard core training). You will geat a lot out of these camps that will keep you going until the next time. If you are going to be at AKA Grand Nationals, it may be possible to arrange a private with either Matt Mullins, Craig Henningsen, Chris Brewster or Brendon Huor as well. Lastly don't be afraid to email Matt Mullins with questions on specific tricks you are trying to achieve. He is busy, but will always try to reply to everyone as soon as possible. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
